According to the latest “European Investor Intentions Survey 2024” by CBRE, Spain ranks fourth among the 10 European countries most attractive to investors in 2024, after the United Kingdom, Germany and Poland. It is also the only country with two cities in the ranking: Madrid (3rd) and Barcelona (7th), which points to a good outlook for the property sector.

Southern Europe is also in the spotlight for investors, which highlights the progress that countries such as Spain and Italy are making on environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria and on digitalisation, factors that are taken into account more and more often when investing.

The study also stresses that expectations for buying and selling property this year are higher than in 2023. The investors surveyed expect the investment market to recover in the second half of the year and favour value-add and opportunistic strategies in search of higher returns. More than half of them expect market activity to return to the levels seen before global interest rates rose in the first half of 2025.

The challenges investors will face this year include the gap between buyers’ and sellers’ expectations, persistently high interest rates and tighter financing conditions. Only 27% of respondents believe that the geopolitical situation will be the main obstacle to property investment, compared with 42% last year.
