Madrid<\/a> accounted for almost half of this volume \u2013 \u20ac5.635 billion, 15.6% more than in the first quarter of last year. It was followed by Catalonia with \u20ac2.358 billion \u2013 a figure that increased by 68.5% compared with 2025. Other regions that stood out in terms of investment volume were the Valencian Community (\u20ac1.845 billion), Andalusia (\u20ac903.6 million), Castile and Le\u00f3n (\u20ac425.2 million), Aragon (\u20ac185.3 million), Galicia (\u20ac172.4 million), the Canary Islands (\u20ac170.5 million) and Asturias (\u20ac151.7 million).<\/p>\nBy geographical origin, the United States retained first place in the ranking of the main investor countries, accounting for one in every five euros invested in Spain (23%). In addition, gross investment from the United States increased by 84% compared with the same period last year.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise noted that the performance of \u201cgreenfield\u201d investment, associated with the launch of new projects and production capacity, was particularly positive. This type of investment increased by more than 52%. In the first half of 2026, almost one in every three euros (30.5%) of foreign direct investment was allocated to \u201cgreenfield\u201d projects (new investments developed from scratch) and \u201cbrownfield\u201d projects (based on existing facilities).<\/p>\n
