Alicante Province and the Balearic Islands lead foreign demand for rental housing in Spain. They account for 26% of the total number of searches on the Idealista portal, according to the company’s analysis for the first quarter of 2026.
At the provincial level, they are followed by Málaga (24%), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (19%), Valencia (18%), Las Palmas and Almería (17% each), Girona (15%), Barcelona (14%), Granada and Cádiz (13% each), and Huelva, Castellón, Tarragona and Murcia (all at 12%).
Nevertheless, there are municipalities where interest exceeds nationwide demand – for example, Andratx in Mallorca (60%), Calpe (53%), Moraira and Calvià (52% each). Among cities located away from the coast, Jaén and Badajoz stand out (11% each), surpassing Madrid (9%) and Seville (8%). As for provincial capitals, Alicante leads (25%), ahead of Valencia (24%), Palma and Málaga (20% each), Barcelona (18%) and Madrid (11%).
Among foreigners in the top three provinces in the ranking, Dutch, German and British nationals predominate, while in municipalities such as Andratx and Calvià, Germans make up the majority. Dutch nationals stand out in Moraira, while in the Canary Islands Germans, Italians and British predominate, along with Americans, French, Brazilians and Moroccans depending on the area.
