According to DoubleTrade, a technology firm specialising in analytics for decision-making, 41,569 construction works of various kinds were carried out in Spain in the first nine months of 2022. That is 44% more than in the same period last year and the highest figure in the last five years. More than 9,700 works are expected to start in the last quarter, so the pace of construction will stay fairly high.
The budget allocated to them came to almost €64.7 billion, 183% more than a year earlier, which also beats the five-year record (€42 billion) set in 2019. From January to September, public tenders rose by 10% year on year, reaching 116,500 contracts worth €75.87 billion. That is 11% more than in 2021, although still below the figure of three years ago (€91.42 billion).
The average investment per construction work was €1.56 million, 54% more than in 2021. Of all building types, hotels were built most often, with an average area of 1,661 m².
