Finestrat is ideal for buying property and living all year round. Why? Read on to find out.
Finestrat, until quite recently an unremarkable little Spanish town, is today one of the main centres of luxury property on the Costa Blanca. The best developers on the coast spotted early on that Finestrat was undervalued and within a few years turned its surroundings into a superb residential area. It was a far-sighted decision, and in a short time Finestrat earned a good reputation: people began to choose it both for holidays and for permanent living.
Finestrat, Spain: population
Statistics show that about half of the residents are foreigners, and we know that foreign buyers are especially demanding about the quality of homes and infrastructure. Finestrat’s popularity with foreign investors clearly shows how convenient it is and how good the value for money of its homes is.
Finestrat: the historic centre

The historic centre of Finestrat lies 3 km from the coast at the foot of the Puig Campana mountain, which rises 1,410 m above sea level. From the western part of Benidorm you can see the spire of the old bell tower of the 18th-century parish church of Sant Bertomeu.
Finestrat’s layout is typical of mountain villages: steep, narrow streets climb the hillside, and whitewashed houses huddle together and rise in terraces up the steep slopes.
The town has kept the walls of an old Moorish fortress and the La Torre watchtower. At the beginning of the last century, the chapel of Santísimo Cristo del Remedio was built on the foundations of the old castle.
At the highest point of the town stands the El Castell fortress, dating from the 13th century, from which you can see Alicante. The peace and quiet and unhurried pace of the old centre contrast with the hustle and noise of neighbouring Benidorm.
Finestrat, Spain: the coastal area. Cala de Finestrat

If you look east towards the coast, you can see the new residential areas that belong administratively to Finestrat but have a thoroughly modern feel: Balcón de Finestrat, Golf Bahía, Terra Marina and La Cala. This is where you will find comfortable modern urbanizaciones, which have brought well-developed infrastructure with them. The buildings are mostly low-rise, and most of this new housing consists of bungalows, townhouses, houses and villas.
Finestrat’s coastal areas are perfect for a relaxing holiday: there are not as many tourists as in Benidorm, but there is a cosy beach of its own with fine golden sand, Cala de Finestrat, plenty of greenery and, within the developments, a large number of children’s playgrounds and sports facilities.
If you wish, you can drive from Finestrat to Benidorm’s large shopping centres, lively promenade, restaurants and entertainment venues in a few minutes. The drive to Alicante-Elche International Airport takes about an hour on the AP-7 motorway or the N-332 national road.
Finestrat: entertainment and tourism

The main centre for family fun is the Terra Mítica theme park, located not far from Finestrat. Also nearby are the Terra Natura zoo, the Mundomar marine park and the large modern Aqualandia water park.
If you head a little further inland into the mountains, you can visit several natural parks and nature reserves, the Guadalest castle, the Fonts de l’Algar waterfalls and the well-known Safari Aitana safari park.
