The Spanish property portal Idealista has published lists of the 100 most expensive and most in-demand cities in Spain for buying a home in 2022. It turns out that the most expensive residential property is concentrated in towns on the peninsula’s Mediterranean coasts (above all in the provinces of Málaga and Alicante) and in the Balearic Islands. In 17 towns the average price exceeds €500,000.
The greatest interest among potential buyers, meanwhile, is in large cities, with Madrid and its suburbs standing out. Major cities such as Barcelona, Seville, Málaga and Palma only made the second ten of the ranking.
Both rankings took into account houses and apartments in municipalities with more than 1,300 listings for sale at prices from €1,100 per m². User activity on the portal that could indicate the balance of supply and demand was also taken into account: the number of email contacts, counter-offers on price and saves to “Favourites”.
