Where World Cup Participants Prefer to Buy Property in Spain

19 June, 2026

Spain continues to be one of the most desirable places to live for people from all over the world. The ongoing FIFA World Cup, held until July 19 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, once again highlights the country’s global appeal.

According to data published by Idealista, the preferred locations among residents of the 48 participating countries vary considerably. The amount buyers are willing to pay per square metre differs significantly depending on the area, reflecting both purchasing power and cultural or geographical ties with Spain.

Madrid and Barcelona Lead the Rankings

The most expensive searches are concentrated in Madrid and Barcelona. In Madrid, the Salamanca district remains the preferred destination for affluent Latin American buyers, with an average price of €10,099/m². Buyers from Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama and Uruguay show the strongest interest in this exclusive area.

Madrid city centre attracts buyers from Argentina, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Iraq and Qatar, with average prices around €7,588/m². Spaniards themselves tend to favour Fuencarral, where prices are more moderate at €5,459/m².

In Barcelona, Eixample is the most popular district among buyers from Australia, Brazil, South Korea, Egypt, France, Japan, Switzerland and Türkiye, with an average price of €6,496/m².

More affordable alternatives include Sant Martí (€5,097/m²), preferred by Croatians, and Ciutat Vella (€4,805/m²), which attracts buyers from Iran, New Zealand, South Africa and Tunisia. The most affordable district among the most searched locations is Sants-Montjuïc at €4,574/m², particularly popular among Paraguayans.

Mediterranean Coast Remains a Favourite

Citizens of the European Union and Northern Europe show a clear preference for Spain’s Mediterranean coastline. Buyers from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Norway, the Netherlands, England, Scotland, the Czech Republic and Sweden are particularly interested in Orihuela Costa in Alicante province, a well-established second-home destination with average prices of €3,037/m².

Meanwhile, buyers from Bosnia and Herzegovina focus on Alicante city centre, where average prices are approximately €3,500/m².

On the Costa del Sol, Canadians favour areas in central Málaga province with average prices of €4,274/m², while Jordanians and Moroccans prefer the exclusive Nueva Andalucía district in Marbella, where average prices reach €6,023/m².

Portuguese buyers, by contrast, look towards Spain’s Atlantic coast and favour Costa Esuri in Ayamonte (Huelva), where average prices are just €1,719/m².

Newcomers and Emerging Markets

World Cup debutants such as Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan and Uzbekistan remain relatively uncommon in the Spanish property market. Other countries, including Haiti and the Democratic Republic of Congo, are returning to the global football stage after long absences, alongside Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire.

Uzbek buyers show a preference for Madrid’s Latina district, where average prices stand at €3,980/m². The area has traditionally attracted immigrant communities and middle-class residents.

Residents of Cape Verde, Spain’s first group-stage opponent, are concentrated in Tafira in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where average prices are €2,107/m². Senegalese buyers also favour Gran Canaria, particularly Puerto-Canteras, where prices average €3,901/m².

Congolese buyers tend to choose Poblats Marítims in Valencia (€3,345/m²), while residents of Curaçao look for properties in Oliva, where average prices are €1,173/m².

Meanwhile, buyers from Haiti and Ghana focus on eastern Málaga (€4,820/m²), Algerians favour Campoamor-Carolinas-Altozano in Alicante (€2,043/m²), and buyers from Côte d’Ivoire show interest in Rochapea, Pamplona (€2,485/m²).
